Let Vertical Realms lead you to a rewarding climbing experience!
Whether this is your first time, or you have been climbing for years and want to climb that route you have been reading about, let Vertical Realms guide you by creating a program structured around your goals. Contact Vertical Realms for a customized program.
Indoors or outdoors, climbing is a balanced and focused activity. It requires both physical and mental training, as well as progressive levels of technical skills, which are required for the safety of the climber both indoors and outdoors.
Through our programs beginners as well as advanced climbers will learn the skills necessary to have an enjoyable experience, while gaining strength and confidence to advance to the next level of your climbing goals! We offer several climbing programs that are available to you by advance registration.
Introduction to Climbing Indoors:
We recommend that most first time climbers sign-up with Prime Climb Inc. for their belay and knot class offered every Saturday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. which lasts about 3 hours. You will learn the basic skills required for climbing in a controlled environment, and will receive a discount on the basic equipment necessary for climbing. Contact Prime Climbor 203-265-7880 for more details, or ask for Chuck, who teaches technique training during the week at the gym.
Climbing Outdoors: The prerequisite for climbing outdoors is either the Introduction to Climbing Indoors listed above, or an Introduction to Climbing course offered outdoors by Vertical Realms - advanced registration required, four (4) persons minimum.
1.The Climbing Experience This course is offered to all people who have passed a belay and knot test at an indoor climbing gym and wish to experience the true sense of climbing on a rock cliff. Clients will be guided up the classic climbs in Connecticut, for a rewarding experience, to improve their skills, and to learn to rappel. See pricing on the Rates page.
2.Top Rope Anchor Set-up This is a one day course that teaches clients the basic skills necessary to set-up top ropes at our local climbing areas. This course emphasizes knot tying, basic anchor building, and equalized top rope set-up to climb in an outdoor setting. Upon completing this course, clients will have the knowledge to set up your own top rope anchor using natural protection at any local crag. Clients must have prior belaying and knot tying experience, and participants should be aware that the climbing experience is secondary to learning essential anchoring skills. 3.Anchors and Protection This advanced course introduces the client to rock climbing protection, including “the rack”, and more advanced anchor building skills. This course is a required prerequisite for our learning to lead program. The client will learn how to build equalized anchors using the nuts, cams, and natural protection, required for most belay stations and many top rope set-ups.
